Here at the Patricia Bech Travel Hub, skiing usually features quite prominently in the winter months. The Patricia Bech Travel Notes has previewed many resorts before. Ski trips are brilliant for outdoor sports enthusiasts and a lot of the resorts have a wide range of activities that you can enjoy even if you’re not an established skier. Winter walks, ice-skating and tobogganing are just some of the varied attractions at ski resorts.

For those looking ahead to the coming ski season, here are some ideas of resorts to try that offer something a little different:
Val Thorens
Val Thorens in France has an incredible toboggan run alongside its excellent ski slopes. In fact, the toboggan run at Val Thorens is the longest toboggan run in France. There is more than 5km to enjoy and both children and adults can use it. Children need to be five years and over.
Söll, Austria
For something a little bit different to the usual daytime skiing, you can try night skiing at Söll in Austria. This area has nearly 13 km of illuminated pistes that are open from Wednesday through until Saturday. You can do the night skiing until 9:30 in the evening.
Avoriaz, France
In Avoriaz, horses are an important part of the ski resort and daily life. This is a car free area. Instead horses carry skiers, walkers, and their luggage across the resort. There are about 20 coachmen and 100 horses that help with the operations of the resort. You can also go horseriding through the snow.
Weissensee / Nassfeld, Austria
For those who like to ice skate, Lake Weissensee in Austria is a good place to visit. The lake freezes over to create 6.5 square kilometers of groomed natural ice. There are long circular tracks and curling rinks. You should still bring your ski because there is also a nearby ski resort that is accessible via a free bus.
