I love the South of France as a holiday destination. The weather in the summer is beautiful. The beaches are busy and the restaurants are packed, but there is a great buzz in this part of the world. The food and wine are fabulous, especially the rose. It is a great place to visit and only a short flight from the UK.
Whenever I visit the South of France, I will fly into Nice airport. It is really convenient for getting to the best local villages and towns. Here are some of my favourite places to visit in the South of France.
If you don’t want to venture too far from the airport, then staying in Nice is ideal. It is a popular seafront destination and it has some lovely places to wine and dine. You can enjoy the French culture almost as soon as you land, with minimal transfer time.
A little further down the seafront and you will find Cannes. The beaches here are better than in Nice in my opinion. That’s mainly because you will find sandy beaches instead of pebbles. I also love the promenade. It is great to walk down and enjoy an ice cream during the hot summer heat.
Grasse is inland but extremely beautiful. Like many French cities, it has some lovely architecture. A visit to Grasse is really special if you are interested in perfume. The famous perfume factories are located here and this is the home of fragrance.
St Tropez is well known for its glamour. This is where the rich and famous holiday and you can do some star-spotting during a trip here. It is beautiful but also quite expensive, so make sure you save up if you are planning to spend a few days here!
